The Tile Shop, Inc. was founded in Ridgefield, Connecticut 1993 by Daniel & Rachel Oprea. Daniel is an installation specialist trained in Europe to work with all types of ceramics and natural stone. Rachel, a local artist born and raised in Ridgefield, has many years experience hand-painting original scenery on ceramics. After lengthy visits to Italy, they fell in love with the creative use of granite, marble, limestone and hand-made ceramics in elegant villas, municipal centers, hotels and city streets.

The result is an extensive collection of select materials in two Connecticut showrooms — Ridgefield and Newtown — that highlights the relationships we have developed with some of the world's best artisans. Evidence of these artisans' work is prominently displayed in the showrooms' unique vignettes of ceramic, slate, travertine, limestone, marble, granite, onyx, metal and glass. We also offer "reclaimed" antique French terra cotta tiles hand-selected in Europe.

The two showrooms provide design assistance and installation for any room. The professional and courteous staff is experienced in working closely with any customer to create the look desired with ease and imagination. Home visits, to provide estimates, as well as design and installation recommendations are routine and encouraged.
